“Building My brand identity”

Cherrie Herberg
My Academic Background and Past Career Experience
I am a Junior at Illinois State University, working toward receiving my bachelors degree in Fashion Design and Merchandising and a minor in Marketing. Besides being a full time student the past three years, I have been able to gain retail experience through working for a couple of different brick and mortars. Through traditional retail experience I have learned valuable skills including; customer service, product development, communication and much more!

Strengths and Achievement
As a young girl, I remember going shopping with my mother and grandmother and asking them “how do stores get all of the items they sell?” From then on I knew I was meant to work in the retail industry. In January 2020 I was able to attend the National Retail Federation student program in New York City. I was able to network and learn from some of the most influential people in the retail industry. The NRF student organization has not only broadened my opportunities, but has enriched my knowledge of the retail industry, as well as, deepened my enthusiasm for my future career. Throughout my college career I have learned that my greatest strengths are, but not limited to: my sense of curiosity, my open mindedness to jump right in, and my positive attitude. All of these characteristics that I possess will help me achieve my career goals.

Career Goals
Fashion merchandising is the median where fashion and business join together. I can’t remember a time where I didn’t love fashion. I’ve always loved every aspect of it from the idea of product development to merchandise planning. My biggest career goal is to work in the fashion industry, for an organization that not only wants to offer the best prices, but wants to offer the best customer experience. In my eyes, customer experience does not begin on the sales floor, but instead begins with the original idea of a product. To me, customer service takes place in all aspects of a company, but are extremely evident in these three characteristics: quality of a product, store atmosphere and personnel. I hope to work as a buyer, to influence customer’s perceptions of the brand’s image. I would like to be able to research and determine what products will be seen on the brand’s shelves.
Why I Created My Blog
Visual Merchandising Analysis
“Visual Merchandising Analysis” is a project where I will be incorporating knowledge learned from Illinois State University’s Family and Consumer Science course: “Fashion Promotion”(FCS368/468). I will be analyzing various fashion window display photos and posting two reflections. You can locate my “Visual Merchandising Analysis” by clicking the button on my homepage.
